Solstice around here means the days will get shorter and winter is coming. Also lightning bugs, which seem rare and are beautiful. The wheat is turning brown and the wind stokes it like a hand over velvet. We’ve had too much sun and need rain. The corn is curling.

Somehow I didn’t discover your Substack until just now, and I can tell even from this short read that I’ve been missing out. You said a lot of true things here, but this: "could anyone have told me how much a mother’s life can center around her children’s teeth?" is SUPERBLY spot-on. Why on earth do the caring and straightening of adolescent teeth cost so ding-dang much and require so many ding-dang appointments?
